Job Description:

Dow Jones Newswires seeks a Senior Publishing Editor with the experience and speed to lead our editing team in Barcelona, which focuses on financial news across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The editor in this senior-level position must be experienced in meeting the needs of financial professional investors seeking real-time delivery of news and insight.

The successful candidate will have top-notch editing and management skills along with the news judgement to assign, curate and package content for a sophisticated, professional audience. Much of the editing will focus on markets, finance and business topics, so familiarity with those subjects and experience as an editor in those areas is expected.

The editor must understand the demands of a real-time news cycle and be comfortable making fast, independent decisions, while also being proactive with reporters and editors to push for the best possible work prior to publication.

Senior publishing editors direct the work of the publishing editors and coordinate across the entire news organization, with reporters for Newswires and WSJ, stringers, technicians and colleagues across the globe. Strong communication skills and an understanding of how to collaborate in a team environment are essential, as is a deep knowledge of workflow, publishing systems and house style.

The Senior Publishing Editor should also expect to contribute to the formation and deployment of strategic initiatives and be able to bring his or her team along with those as they develop.

While you will likely start the job working remotely, you will eventually be based in our Barcelona office.

You will:
  • Coordinate and oversee workflow on the editing desk, making coverage decisions while upholding Dow Jones standards and ethics.
  • Recruit, train and coach staff on the editing desk, including leading performance reviews.
  • Help ensure the smooth running of the newsroom, dealing with technical issues and smoothing out editorial issues that delay publication.
  • Understand and facilitate workflow within and beyond the editing desk.

You have:
  • A depth of financial knowledge that lets you quickly assess and prioritize headline writing and editing of breaking news coming in through multiple channels.
  • A well-honed sense of urgency along with a capacity to remain calm under pressure.
  • Leadership capabilities and a minimum of two years experience in financial journalism.
  • Strong command of Dow Jones Newswires coding, style, formats, and correction and embargo procedures.

To apply, please submit your resume and cover letter explaining how you would approach the job.
