VAC048

The Press and Journal is offering an experienced and passionate journalist the opportunity to join an agenda-setting team reporting on businesses and economic trends across the North of Scotland.

You will have responsibility for sourcing and creating innovative, in-depth stories about economic factors that matter to our audience, particularly in the Highlands and Islands and Moray. These stories might be quick turnaround pieces that react to breaking news or topical subjects, or they could be long-form feature articles, that delve into trends or local issues affecting jobs and people.

You will have knowledge of and enthusiasm for businesses and the people that run them. Our ideal applicant will not only find stories and come up with ideas but take an innovative approach in how they are told, utilising all the multimedia tools at their disposal. Training and support will be available and provided.

  • Have the ability to package content attractively for online consumption and a willingness to embrace skills and tools in the digital arena such as SEO, social media, video, audio etc
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Have highly-developed communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge of the Editors' Code of Practice, GDPR and media law
