Reporter, Breaking News at BuzzFeed London

BuzzFeed

BuzzFeed is the world’s leading tech-powered, diversified media company that reaches hundreds of millions of people globally through its cross-platform news and entertainment network. The company produces articles, lists, quizzes, videos, and original series; lifestyle content through brands including Tasty, the world’s largest social food network; original reporting and investigative journalism through BuzzFeed News and HuffPost; an industry-leading affiliate business, strategic partnerships, licensing and product development through BuzzFeed Commerce; and original productions across broadcast, cable, SVOD, film and digital platforms for BuzzFeed Studios.

The Role

HuffPost seeks a skilled, ambitious reporter to cover breaking news for our large, diverse and engaged audience.

You Will

You will be on the frontline of HuffPost’s coverage of the major stories of the day. You will report breaking news on a range of subjects, from politics to major court cases to international demonstrations. You will also contribute to live coverage of major events, such as elections, debates and natural disasters. Reporters on the team are encouraged to pitch ideas for daily news coverage on a wide range of topics, and also have opportunities to work with editors to develop and execute longer-form stories or projects. You will at times need to work independently to identify which news events to cover and how to cover them.

You Have

Be a talented writer who is hungry to learn, willing to hit the phones and able to pivot from one topic to another without hesitation. You should be fast and precise in breaking news events, while also staying organized as you manage long-term projects. An expansive and varied news diet and an obsession with breaking news is a must, as is the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Fluency in digital news-gathering tools, including social media, is a plus. You should have a knack for brainstorming informative, interesting and fun story ideas, and have an ability to collaborate across multiple teams and juggle several stories and projects at the same time.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience writing or reporting. However, we encourage candidates with less experience to apply.

This role’s typical shifts take place during U.S. Eastern Time morning hours, and may involve work on Saturdays.

All job applications must be received through the official BuzzFeed Jobs board, including referrals. It is BuzzFeed's practice to not schedule job interviews until after an application is submitted through our jobs board.
