Apollo is seeking to recruit a digital editor to join its dynamic editorial team. This is a senior position and an exciting opportunity to work at one of the world’s most prestigious art magazines, to manage and develop the editorial content of its highly regarded website and to grow Apollo’s online audience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with Apollo’s other editors to commission articles for the website from a range of Apollo contributors, as well as introducing new writers to the magazine.
  • Managing the daily online publication schedule under the guidance of the editor (currently two posts per day, including republished print content). This includes overseeing the publication of articles commissioned and edited by other Apollo editors.
  • Editing articles for the Apollo website (one or two per day, depending on editorial workflow).
  • In collaboration with the production team, managing and creating Apollo’s three weekly newsletters
  • Managing the online editorial budget to cover contributor payments and image fees.
  • Overseeing Apollo’s social media accounts regularly to maintain the magazine’s web presence and increase traffic to the website (Twitter and Facebook; some Instagram). Managing the assistant editor and editorial assistant’s updating of social media accounts.
  • Writing regularly for Apollo in print and online.
  • Working with production, marketing and commercial teams to fulfil and develop Apollo’s digital strategy, including working to grow digital subscriptions and deliver digital content in collaboration with Apollo’s partners where relevant.
  • Representing Apollo at press previews and other press events.

Key Skills 

  • 2–3 years’ experience of working as a digital editor
  • Experience in arts journalism or publishing
  • Experience of editing articles for publication.
  • Ability to write eye-catching and appropriate headlines and standfirsts
  • Experience of working with an online CMS system.
  • Knowledge of social media strategy (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).
  • The ability to work as part of an editorial team.
  • Detail-oriented; understands the importance of meeting deadlines.
  • Takes ownership and initiative.
  • Willingness to take direction and work in close collaboration with the magazine’s editors and writers.
  • Able to multi-task and adapt easily to change and changing priorities.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • A demonstrable interest in visual arts and the art world.
