Job Title: Audience Analyst

Department: Audience Development

Reports to: Deputy Head of Audience

News UK is a company full of talented, dedicated and creative people. We are an ambitious and ever-growing organisation with a passion for storytelling, capturing moments, meaning and magic to make sense of the world.

Our newspapers reach more than 30 million people each week and include The Sun, The Times and The Sunday Times. News UK is also home to Wireless, a leading UK and Irish media company boasting independent local and national radio stations.

Your Team: The Sun Online is the biggest mobile news brand in the UK - and still growing! - with a young, talented, diverse team who publish the best coverage of news, sport, TV and showbiz, lifestyle and family value.

Our hugely successful, award-winning Audience Development team sits at the core of our publishing operation and is constantly evolving, growing new audiences, and building engagement and loyalty with our readers.

We’re looking for an Audience Analyst to work in our fast-paced newsroom and provide support to the Audience department, journalists and editors - from day to day guidance to longer term insight. You’ll need to be able to extract insight from data using various analytics tools and present it in a clear way.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Monitor and analyse our organic traffic on a daily and weekly basis, providing insight and making recommendations to inform what our newsroom writes about in order to grow our audience

  • Provide more detailed longer-term analysis and insight for the Audience department, individual section heads (such as news or showbiz editors) and product managers to inform both our editorial strategy and our technical roadmap

  • Proactive analysis of our traffic to find opportunities as well as issues, making data-led recommendations in a clear and understandable way

  • You’ll be based in The Sun’s Audience department but will work closely with News UK’s central analytics team

  • Decide what tools we should use to maximise our understanding of our traffic

Experience

You’ll need:

  • Experience with web and SEO analytics tools. We currently use a combination of Google Analytics and various other tools

  • Experience with Google Data Studio (essential) and other data visualisation tools such as Tableau (beneficial)

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience of working with large data sets

  • To be able to juggle working in a fast-based news environment with running longer-term projects

  • A good understanding of the role of analytics within the media sector

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, with the ability to translate data effectively for people not used to dealing with it

  • A proven track record of delivering and presenting actionable insights and analysis to stakeholders

  • High levels of logical thinking and problem solving skills, ability to draw meaningful conclusions from disparate and incomplete sources

  • To understand complex business questions and be able to frame the right analytical questions
