Social Media Editor - We are looking for a Social Media Editor to join Scotland’s News Website of the Year team and award-winning paper to lead and implement our social media strategy and bring our stories to life across all digital platforms.

Your Role: The Social Media Editor will be responsible for leading The Scottish Sun’s social media team, ensuring our content is effectively distributed over all social media platforms to engage our audiences, while developing our social media strategy to stay ahead of the curve in an ever evolving landscape. 

Day to day

  • Lead the development and execution of The Scottish Sun's social media strategy

  • Manage and direct the social media team so all output is delivered to the highest standard 

  • Polish social headlines and images to ensure stories have maximum impact with  audiences across different platforms

  • Monitor social channels to unearth fascinating stories - from breaking news to viral videos

  • Liaise with teams across the business to ensure we are constantly adapting our strategies and following best practice 

  • Study analytics and continually assess what is performing on social and tailor content accordingly 

  • Monitor the latest stories from The Scottish Sun’s sister sites and curate the best articles for our pages

  • Work closely with editorial colleagues across our integrated newsroom for fresh lines, particularly on large live stories

  • Work flexibly across a seven-day rota

What we’re looking for from you: 

  • Experience of working in social media in a fast-paced news environment

  • Expert knowledge of social media, digital tools and latest trends

  • Demonstrable experience using third party distribution software, aggregators and analytics 

  • A passion for all things journalism, social media, current affairs and sport

  • A working knowledge of Facebook community standards and latest algorithm changes

  • An understanding of the The Scottish Sun brand across print, digital and social media 

  • Ability to deliver consistently high standards under pressure in a deadline-driven environment

  • A team player and a problem-solver who can communicate clearly and decisively in a fast-moving newsroom

  • A sense of humour and positive energy

  • Knowledge of IPSO regulations
