Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a photo editor with great range, experience and journalistic integrity who can work on our news hub.

You will be responsible for monitoring and covering breaking news and news updates. You must have strong coordination skills as you collaborate with photo desk editors and newsroom publishing editors. It is an opportunity to work within a large newsroom setting with bureaus around the world. You will join a dynamic and fast-paced team of photo editors.

While you may start remotely, you will ultimately be based in our New York office. You will report to the Deputy Photography Director, News.

You Will:

-Work quickly and accurately on breaking news and enterprise stories, collaborating with the newsroom's editors, visual teams and section chiefs.

-Curate and produce visually led stories in a fast-paced newsroom, anticipating photographic and other needs as stories develop.

-Work in our CMS to combine different formats, newsroom tools and visual elements.

-Occasionally commission photography, working with our freelance photographers, editors and reporters on breaking news coverage.

-Follow department guidelines and safety protocols in working with photographers and subjects.

-Perform deep, thoughtful research with the Obits team, coordinating and managing a significant inventory.

-Work with platform and off-platform editors to surface the work strategically across all platforms.

You Have:

-At least 3 years experience in a photo editing role, an enthusiasm for good journalism and current events, and keen news judgment.

-Proven deep research skills and experience with news gathering and research tools.

-Knowledge of web tools and programs, including content management systems, Photoshop, PhotoMechanic, video editing tools, FTP, and social media tools.

-Some knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript useful.

-Motivation to work independently as well as with a team.

-Strong organizational and communication skills and an ability to balance short and long term projects across different sections.

-The initiative to take on and learn new tasks in a fast-moving environment.
