Thanks to the expansion of our editorial coverage, two exciting reporting roles have opened up at the respected global environmental regulatory news service, Chemical Watch.

Founded in 2007, we provide news and insight on the steps being taken by governments, businesses and NGOs across the globe to improve the safe management of chemicals – a goal vital to human health and the environment.

While we would prefer candidates to have at least a year’s experience working in a newsroom environment, applications are also welcome from exceptional entry-level candidates with a postgraduate qualification in journalism.

Both roles will suit applicants interested in reporting on environmental policy and regulatory developments, who are not afraid to handle technical information that can sometimes be complex.

The successful candidates will be fast learners, able to think on their feet and have the personality, confidence and drive to engage with key contacts in industry, government and elsewhere. In return, we offer the opportunity to work alongside a highly experienced editorial team that includes journalists recruited from Bloomberg, Reuters, Politico, the Guardian, BBC and more.

One of the successful candidates will work closely with our transport desk editor, reporting on the big policy and regulatory developments governing the transport and storage of chemicals across the globe. The other will work closely with our Asia desk editor reporting on the key policy and regulatory developments governing chemicals in the Asia Pacific region.

While the primary task will be to research and write news stories, from time to time the successful candidates will also be expected to write longer feature articles and contribute to our news podcast. If successful, you will also attend press conferences and Chemical Watch and third party events – online or, when possible, in person.

 Essential attributes

• Postgraduate qualification in journalism or one year’s experience in a newsroom environment
• Strong organisational skills and personal drive
• Confident communicator online and face-to-face
• Excellent writing skills, capable of communicating complex ideas clearly
• Happy to work largely from home
• Cope well with pressure

Desirable attributes

• Professional newsroom experience
• Knowledge of a relevant field (environmental regulation, chemicals, transport, science etc).

Owned by global environmental, health and safety information services company Enhesa, Chemical Watch continues to enjoy strong year-on-year growth. It has more than 70 staff, based in the UK, US and throughout Europe, including a team of 22 journalists.
