About The Role

We are looking for a highly organised individual with a ‘can do’ attitude to be an assistant in support of the Telegraph’s prestigious Culture desk. This role is attached to the TV section of the Culture desk and is focused on assisting with TV production work.

This is a great entry-level role to the Telegraph and arts journalism and would particularly suit a candidate with a strong interest in TV. The role will involve some opportunity to develop writing and editing skills. It also involves administrative work and general assistance tasks. The administrative work comes to around a day a week (although it can be carried out across a number of days).

Key Responsibilities

● Assisting the TV section in listings and previews production.

● Upload articles to the Telegraph website and posts to the Telegraph culture social accounts

● Help fix interviews for the desk

● Contribute ideas to the team

● Research and write stories and reviews, particularly for online, when requested

● Develop and apply ‘first read’ editing and subbing skills

● Help organise and compile the TV newsletter

● Undertake general administrative duties, including financial administration, distributing post and organising books cupboard


Key Skills

● A good knowledge of TV

● Excellent organisation

● Excellent research and writing skills

● Able to work independently, using initiative, and also as part of a team

● Polite, confident and persuasive on the phone

● Able to adhere to quick and strict deadlines and work under pressure

● Weekend work may be required

Additional skills useful for the role

● Digital, social media and SEO awareness

● Production skills, including familiarity with Adobe InDesign
