JOB DESCRIPTION

Digital Spy, the UK's biggest TV and Movies website, is looking for an Acting Deputy Picture Editor to work a maternity cover contract.

Reporting to the Acting Picture Editor, you'll be an essential part of our team, complimenting the words written for Digital Spy, and posts on social media, with engaging, carefully-curated pictures and video.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Work closely with the Acting Picture Editor and editorial management team on visual strategy for the brand across site, social and magazine, overseeing the picture budget and all output of visual content on all DS channels.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to requests from the editorial team; to source, research and create engaging, interesting, and shareable images and video for all Digital Spy channels.
  • Sourcing new images from agencies and negotiating rates within Digital Spy’s picture budget.
  • Ensuring all imagery usage is legally sound and adheres to established embargoes.
  • Assist the Managing Editor and Chief Sub-Editor with the newsletter build on a weekly basis.
  • Stepping up in the absence of the Acting Picture Editor.
  • Flexible working patterns including early shifts 7:30am-3:30pm, and 9:30am-5:30pm in a rota alongside the Acting Picture Editor.

ABOUT YOU

You'll have experience working on a busy picture desk for a website, magazine or other leading news or entertainment brand. You'll also have good legal knowledge, especially of copyright laws and around issues associated to image rights.

You'll have experience in using Photoshop to make basic edits (such as resizing and brightening) and composite images.

As well as a strong interest in and knowledge of TV, Movies, Soaps and Showbiz, you'll be socially savvy across Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok – and always on top of trending conversations.

Previous experience in creating galleries and video editing skills is desirable, but not essential.
