Job purpose

The Evening Standard is looking for a Senior Production Executive for one-year maternity cover as Deputy Production Editor.

This role involves liaising closely with news and picture desk and communication skills are key

About you

You will be a robust individual, well experienced in the highest level of newspaper production, who is good at managing staff including those working from home.

Key responsibilities

  • Must be highly skilled at working under pressure,
  • Ability to juggle complex changes in the run-up to deadline,
  • exercise excellent judgment and have full knowledge of all journalistic codes of practice.
  • Headlines must be of the highest standard, factual, accurate, witty when needed, and eye-catching.

Skills and experience

  • Candidate must have highest level of newspaper productions skills,
  • Proven experience at operating at the top level in national newspapers.
  • You must be able to take responsibility for oversight of news and features pages, ensuring they are produced to the highest of standards and on time.
