Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a senior video journalist to produce timely international news videos as part of its global news operation in London.

Top candidates for this position will have a professional background in video journalism, demonstrate exceptional shooting and Adobe Premiere editing skills, and have extensive experience with graphics in AfterEffects and Illustrator. We are looking for someone who can add depth and context to a story and bring challenging topics to life visually on deadline.

In this role, you will cover the day's news events across a variety of subjects and juggle many tasks. Deadline pressure is a constant in our newsroom, so an ability to react quickly is essential, as is the ability to bring challenging topics to life visually.

Please note, this is not an entry-level position, and it is not a position producing documentaries. Because this is a role focused on producing timely news coverage, candidates need to show successful executions of projects that have been done in just a few hours and stand out in the 24/7 information cycle.

You will be based out of our London office. You will report to the London-based Weekend Supervising Producer.

All interested candidates should submit a cover letter clearly outlining how their skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements, along with links to five videos that

represent the type of work described. Candidates who do not submit cover letters will not be considered.

You will:

  • Work as the international video producer on a Thursday through Monday schedule
  • Research, write and produce timely stories and topical analysis on a daily basis
  • Regularly pitch new and original story ideas for timely news coverage
  • Collaborate with reporters and editorial leaders in all coverage areas to ensure that the Journal's deep reporting and expert analysis is reflected in every video
  • Coach beat reporters and news editors in person and remotely to appear on camera or in voiceover
  • Ensure that all journalistic and legal standards are followed at all times
  • Work late hours as news developments may warrant
  • Monitor feeds and breaking news events
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

You have:

  • At least five years of experience working in a daily news environment
  • Demonstrated experience producing compelling business, markets and tech videos under tight deadline constraints
  • Knowledge of current events, global politics and economics, as well as a nose for news
  • Professional experience writing scripts for news stories under tight time constraints
  • Skill with multiple camera setups, including but not limited to the Sony FS5, FS7, C100 and C300
  • Adeptness with studio lighting setups
  • Professional competency editing with Adobe Premiere
  • Extensive graphics experience utilizing After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Strong skills as a communicator and collaborator
