Travel writer (12-month fixed term contract)

The Times and The Sunday Times are looking for a talented, diligent and versatile writer to join the Travel team on a 12 month fixed term contract.

The successful candidate will work across The Times, The Sunday Times and Times Travel, handling everything from desk admin and writing assignments to copy editing, commissioning and production.

Suited to someone early in their career, the role requires a firm grasp of digital and print publishing, excellent organisational skills, a good understanding of the travel industry and a proven track record of generating ideas and delivering compelling copy.

Day to day you will:

  • Delivering accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines

  • Overseeing payments and other admin for the Travel department

  • Commissioning and editing copy and providing interview features 

  • Building and maintaining contacts in the travel industry

  • Generating content for social/digital platforms

  • Working collaboratively with other departments, including pictures, graphics, audience, social and commercial, to ensure maximum reach and impact of content

Responsibilities:

  • Experience writing for a high-profile digital or print travel publication

  • Demonstrable expertise in travel

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail 

  • Good understanding of audience data and SEO 

  • Able to work autonomously and to strict deadlines

  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
