The Focus of the Role:

To assist the Editorial teams and the Publishing Management team in day to day tasks relating to budgets, team management and admin. Keeping track of budgets is essential and keeping in constant communication with Editors and Section heads to ensure that budgets are being met.

The Managing Editor is also key to helping the Publishing Management team with information they may need whether that’s regarding budgets, people queries or other financial information, the Managing Editor will need to be over a number of areas to provide the correct information. As the bridge between Editorial and HR, Accounts and Management, this role overseas a wide variety of tasks

Main Responsibilities

  • Financial
    • Completing PSR’s at month end
    • Keeping track of commercial/advertising money and making sure editorial costs are coded to the right areas
    • Update forecast and oversee Editorial budgets
    • Billing troubleshooting
    • Provide finance system training to new starters/new users for raising PO’s and doing expenses
    • Look after the company credit card – put through expenses monthly and keep track of what’s spent on it


  • Admin
    • Put through PO’s for regular freelancers 
    • Paperwork for starters and leavers
    • Assist the Editorial teams in the recruitment process from end to end
    • New supplier set ups
    • Approve timesheets
    • Assist the Editorial teams in any HR, IT or Accounts requirements they may have


  • Other
    • Manage group contracts where necessary
    • Team management – vacancies/recruitment/promotions/job descriptions 

Person Specification

  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Highly organised
  • Knowledge of Month End process is desirable but not a necessity
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills
