About the Campaigns team at MoneySavingExpert 
Campaigning on behalf of consumers is part of the core mission of MoneySavingExpert, and our highly effective Campaigns team is the powerhouse that helps drive that. It’s focused on delivering better outcomes and protections for consumers through research, policy, public affairs, stakeholder engagement and PR. 

In recent years, the team has delivered successful campaigns in areas such as student finance, council tax rebates, scam adverts and ombudsman reform. It’s a team that punches far above its weight, and is regularly asked to contribute to formal and informal policy consultations, and to collaborate with other consumer advocates. 

The Campaigns team works across all consumer policy areas, from writing financial services consultation responses, to participating in roundtable meetings at regulators, or meeting high level government officials and ministers - with the aim of influencing policy on behalf of consumers. 

As Campaigns Lead you’ll report to our Editor-in-Chief, Marcus Herbert, and be supported by a Policy & Research Officer and a Public Affairs Officer.  The team works collaboratively with colleagues from across MSE, to ensure the maximum campaigning impact for all our activities.  This role pays up to £60k depending on experience.

What will you be doing? 
You’ll lead the team at a time when we have never been busier, as we help consumers navigate the rising cost of living and the energy crisis.  

You’ll identify and recommend potential high impact campaigns for MSE as well as manage the existing campaign portfolio, drawing on a wealth of expertise from across MSE alongside the detailed research the team carries out.  You’ll work closely with the news, Forum and social media teams to amplify our formal campaigns and you’ll make sure that where our coverage has an impact on consumer rights, this is brought to the attention of the relevant bodies. 

Naturally, you will work closely with our founder, Martin Lewis, planning and prioritising our campaigns, and as a senior member of our Editorial Leadership Team you’ll play a key role in supporting and developing MSE’s wider strategy. 

What will it take to be our next Campaigns Lead? 
This is a busy, challenging and rewarding role for anyone who’s passionate about fighting for consumer rights. You’ll be someone with great written and verbal communication skills, confident about commissioning and interpreting robust research. Someone who is able to keep their finger on the pulse of consumer sentiment and public affairs, and build relationships with senior stakeholders within government and the regulatory sector.  

With several campaigns on the go at any one time, a constant flow of potential new campaigns to be assessed, and other deadlines that can’t be missed, you’ll need to be resilient and able to plan and prioritise, but also react swiftly to unexpected, often urgent, events. The ability to think creatively about the best way to achieve campaign objectives in a fluid, often news-led, environment, and then go on to deliver the required result is a must. 

It goes without saying that you’ll need to be numerate with the aptitude to understand the technical aspects of financial services. 

Finally, but very importantly, you’ll lead and develop a high performing team, supporting them, providing challenge where needed, and maintaining the high standards that the team is recognised for.
