Interim Senior Editor - Royalty

DEPARTMENT : Digital

REPORTING TO: Website Editor

Role Overview

This is a maternity leave cover to take ownership of the Royal section of HELLO! Online, writing, managing and being responsible for the growth of stats in this vital area of the website.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write royal stories and features on a daily basis
  • Build up royal contacts and sources to ensure our coverage is new and fresh
  • Plan content around big royal events
  • Liaise with the Royal Editor on the magazine and Royal households for stories
  • Hit daily, weekly and monthly targets for the Royal section
  • Clone royal stories and galleries
  • Come up with new and interesting royal angles for stories and galleries
  • Occasionally work out of hours to cover Royal events
  • Conduct interviews and come up with royal exclusives

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience being a section editor of a busy online news outlet
  • Experience of exclusive royal writing is not a requirement, but an interest in the royals and great royal knowledge is vital 
  • A strong news sense and an irrepressible desire for a good story
  • Strong interviewing and editing skills
  • Experience working to data KPIs and working knowledge of Google Analytics/Chartbeat etc
  • Good working knowledge of SEO
  • Experience with Photoshop preferable
  • A passion for celebrity and royal news and content
  • A creative flair and a head full of new and exciting ideas

HELLO!'s social footprint is now over 15M driven by 7M Snapchat users with 13M video views on TikTok and our digital brand has transformed from a small legacy publishing site into a dynamic and high growth area of the business. 

Our annual audience has grown from 68 million unique global users to 225 million! And our USA team recently scooped the The Drum Award for Best Launch for HELLO!'s digital US product.

HELLO! celebrates the kindness and community of women through our annual  HELLO! Inspiration Awards hosted by our Editor in Chief Rosie Nixon who is an ambassador for the charity Wellbeing of Women; a health charity saving and changing the lives of women, girls and babies. HELLO! has partnered with Wellbeing of Women to launch the Menopause Workplace Pledge to which hundreds of UK employers including BBC, M&S, Royal Mail and Channel 4 have signed up to.

Our Digital and Commercial teams are based in our gorgeous WeWork office at Blackfriars and our print magazine team are close neighbours at HELLO! HQ. 

HELLO! supports hybrid working our Commercial and Print Magazine teams are office based on Tuesday and Wednesday and our Digital team on Wednesday and Thursday.
