The Role
The Financial Times is hiring a digital markets correspondent, a new role on the Markets desk that will straddle the market structures of both traditional finance and the fast-emerging crypto sectors.
We’re seeking a talented journalist who is keen to dive into the workings of the financial system, to understand how equity, bond, derivatives and crypto markets work, the links between exchanges and their customers and how regulation shapes trading. The ideal candidate will deliver scoops and original analyses in an area that is both core to the FT and has few comparable positions in global media.
The broad-ranging role will involve covering major traditional exchanges including London Stock Exchange, Euronext and Deutsche Börse. It will also dig into the crypto industry and examine the foundations of this new trading asset class along with the FT’s digital assets correspondent.
The role involves reporting on complex and arcane corners of the market and financial regulation, so an ability to write clearly and concisely is crucial. The digital markets correspondent will also liaise closely with colleagues across global desks on covering issues including how Brexit is reshaping the UK and EU financial services industries, and how trading is increasingly moving off-exchange, into dark pools or over-the-counter markets.
Key responsibilities
- Cover traditional and crypto market structure
- Deliver scoops and news-led analyses on the plumbing of financial markets
- Report on major exchanges including London Stock Exchange, Euronext and Deutsche Börse
- Contribute to the upcoming crypto-focused newsletter
- Keep close tabs on how new legislation and regulations are affecting traditional and crypto financial markets
- Interview leading executives and policymakers in the sector
- Collaborate with colleagues across global desks
- Write clearly and concisely on complex topics
Please submit your application by Wednesday 6th July 2022
