An exciting start-up seeks experienced reporters, editors and multimedia experts to join our newsroom.

Hyphen, an innovative newly-launched website focused on issues affecting and related to new and established Muslim communities in the UK and Europe, seeks experienced reporters to cover stories in Manchester or Liverpool, Leeds or Sheffield, and Edinburgh or Glasgow

For the right candidates, we offer competitive rates and flexible working opportunities across the full journalistic spectrum, including news reporting, feature writing, long reads and audio-visual content.

Key responsibilities:

  • Propose, research, report, and write insightful and well-contextualised features, occasional analyses and news stories drawn from the UK.
  • On occasion, produce quick-turnaround stories.
  • Develop and use multimedia tools to amplify, illustrate and promote your work, including creative use of social media.
  • Maintain regular and clear communication with editors to ensure all are properly briefed on activities and work schedules.

Requirements:

  • Candidates should have a robust insight into the aspirations and influences associated with new and established Muslim communities in the UK — across political, social, economic and civil society fields, as well as sport, business, arts and lifestyle.
  • A proven track record of delivering engaging stories and a wide-ranging roster of contacts.
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills across shorter and feature-length stories.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sound journalistic practice, such as balance, careful sourcing and a solid, practical understanding of media law.
  • Work collaboratively with other reporters and editors.

Benefits:

Working from home or in-person reporting with some days in our London office.
