Beauty Director

Maternity Cover - up to 12 Months FTC

We are looking for a beauty director to join The Sunday Times Style Magazine on a maternity cover contract.

The successful candidate will already have extensive experience at a beauty-centric editorial brand, with a wide range of contacts in both the luxury and high street markets and digital and video experience. You will be hardworking, efficient and used to working to tight deadlines.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, organised and creative beauty expert who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully manage productive relationships with the Style editor, the beauty team and journalists across the newsroom

  • Conceive and deliver exclusive beauty news and features stories that appeal to Style readers

  • Contribute daily ideas for all platforms including print, website, social media and video

  • Demonstrate an understanding of what works best for digital, offering content that is truly distinctive

  • Command respect and authority on the subject of beauty and communicate that knowledge effectively in print, digital, radio and television as a representative of The Sunday Times Style Magazine — especially our own internal stations.

  • Work with production colleagues in design, pictures and sub-editing to produce beauty content as efficiently as possible, meeting deadlines

  • Oversee beauty shoots, beauty features and the overall look and feel of the beauty pages

  • Track brand credits and coverage alongside the commercial department

  • Attend shows, launches and events on behalf of Style

Skills and experience

  • Experience as a beauty editor or director

  • Excellent PR contacts across the brand spectrum

  • Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences for The Sunday Times

  • Unflappable under pressure and delivers work at a consistently high standard

  • First-class communication skills - can communicate effectively with all levels of seniority across the paper and with external contacts

  • Displays an enthusiastic, can do, flexible attitude, especially when facing challenges

  • Adapts easily to changing priorities

  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
