Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced audio producer to join our dynamic podcast team. This role will be working with the daily What's News podcast.

We are a growing audio team that works across many areas of the WSJ newsroom to produce quality, balanced, news-driven podcasts on topics that range from politics, personal finance, science and more. Ideal candidates for this position have a professional background in audio journalism, top-notch news writing skills, and strong experience producing in the studio and the field.

This position will report to the Executive Producer of WSJ podcasts and is based in our New York office.

You will:

  • Research topics of interest to the Wall Street Journal audience
  • Source timely news and archival audio to be used on the show
  • Record studio and field interviews with a wide range of subjects
  • Pitch and write news headlines, wraps with sound and kickers for podcast episodes
  • Edit and mix full episodes of a daily PM podcast on deadline
  • Book, plan and execute in-person and remote interviews with guests
  • Coordinate the appearance of reporters and editors in New York, Hong Kong, and other international offices on podcasts and sound-rich feature stories
  • Serve as a backup host on podcasts, as occasionally needed
  • Fact-check and ensure that all WSJ journalistic and legal standards are followed
  • Complete additional duties as assigned


You have:

 

  • 3-5 years of experience as an audio producer in a daily news environment, preferably at a top-tier news organization
  • Capacity to work late hours and weekends, both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant
  • Expertise in managing multiple projects in various stages of production
  • Ability to convey news and tell business and market stories in creative ways
  • Demonstrated experience working on newsy and narrative podcasts
  • Track record of producing quality audio content efficiently under tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of current events in politics, economics, in the U.S. and internationally
  • An instinct for news with excellent news judgment
  • Adept with operating studio boards as well as field equipment
  • Professional-level understanding of Adobe Audition, Pro Tools or another DAWS
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a drive for collaboration
