Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an energetic Newsletter Writer for The 10-Point, our flagship newsletter for Journal members.

You will be in charge of writing the soon-to-launch Saturday and Sunday editions of The 10-Point. You will also act as the lead writer on a series of pop-up newsletters and help with projects such as newsroom training and data analysis.

The 10-Point, a weekday-morning news digest, is not only our biggest newsletter by number of recipients but acts as a front page for Journal members and a key membership benefit. As the weekend writer, you will helm an important expansion of The 10-Point and play a crucial role in curating the weekend news experience for our members. Newsletters are a key area of growth for the Journal and you will be part of a team that guides their continued success.

We are looking for someone with excellent journalistic instincts, including top-notch writing, editing and curation skills, sound news judgment, and the ability to work on a deadline. We value collaboration, creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit.

This is a hybrid position with some time spent each week in our New York City office. Your shift will be roughly from 2 p.m. ET to 10 p.m. ET on Tuesdays through Saturdays. You will report to Leigh Kamping-Carder, Head of Newsletters.

You will:

  • Work closely with WSJ Editor in Chief Matt Murray and other senior editors to produce a lively and informative weekend read.
  • Provide backup writing for the weekday 10-Point and backup editing for the What's News newsletter.
  • Help monitor and respond to reader emails.
  • Act as the lead writer on an upcoming pop-up newsletter series.
  • Train newsroom colleagues on newsletter software; provide ongoing support and troubleshooting.
  • Work with the newsroom to enhance existing newsletters, including analyzing data, disseminating best practices and editing special editions.
  • Create, refine and expand newsletter documentation.

You have:

  • At least two years of journalism experience.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, news judgment and ability to meet deadlines.
  • A track record of working independently.
  • Aptitude in learning new software and teaching it to others, particularly content management systems.
  • Experience writing, producing or launching newsletters or a demonstrated interest in newsletters.
  • Familiarity with the Journal brand, voice and content, ideally in core coverage areas such as markets, business and politics.

The Journal's reporters, editors, developers, and audio and visual journalists create important and impactful stories, firmly rooted in fact and adhering to the highest ethical standards. We report without fear or bias, and we maintain a proper sense of perspective, detachment and objectivity in our reporting.

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining how your skills, experience and interests align with the requirements of the role.
