Visuals Editor

We are seeking a Visuals Editor to lead visual story-telling for The Sunday Times Ireland as part of our Dublin team.

You will bring our stories to life using photography and visual storytelling of all kinds across all platforms. This job is responsible for commissioning and editing photography, video, and graphics and will work as an integral part of the editorial team as we move to digital-first commissioning and publishing. 

You will have experience working in a senior visuals role for a newspaper or major news organisation along with the ability to work to tight deadlines and an insatiable appetite for news and current affairs.

Day to day you will:

 

  • Successfully manage productive relationships with the head of news and journalists across the newsroom

  • Manage a productive relationship with London visual departments, utilising resources to maximise efficiency

  • Investigating news stories to source exclusive pictures, video and graphics, as well as producing stand-alone video and picture packages

  • Pitch exclusive interactive graphics and picture gallery ideas to engage our digital audience and help to plan how these stories are shared and promoted

  • Pull editorial insights from data, understand various platform-specific metrics to inform decisions

  • Manage relationships with designers, photographers, agencies and other external contacts to source or commission original, distinctive visual content

  • Use social networking and other digital platforms for content generation and to promote The Sunday Times Ireland content

  • Able to work under pressure on edition, as well as contribute to longer-term projects 

  • Proactively research suitable content ideas and putt together strong packages that engage readers

  • Manage the visual media budget


 

What we are looking for from you:

 

  • Experience working in a senior visuals role for a newspaper or major news organisation

  • Experience with image management and editing software and knowledge of FTP and transmission systems

  • Experience using visual editing tools including Photoshop and After Effects

  • Experience creating visuals for digital platforms

  • An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy

  • Ability to communicate succinctly and effectively

  • Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams 

  • Reliable and prepared to put in extra time and effort where necessary

  • Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to problem-solve

  • Strong understanding of usage rights, permissions and copyright
