Threadneedle Media
Clapham office + flexible working.
£23k annually + annual bonus up to £3k
Closing date
21 Nov 2022

Threadneedle Media is looking for an editorial assistant to work across the digital channels of Foodism and Escapism, as well as their print magazines. The successful candidate will be a diligent and ambitious content producer and writer, full of ideas and enthusiasm, with previous experience in an editorial environment (with a focus on online publishing), and a passion for audience engagement, social media and print magazines.

The position is ideal for a recent graduate looking to start their career at an exciting and growing media house. Experience of planning and producing content online and on social media is crucial, while experience working on print media is ideal but not essential. Alongside writing for the website and magazine, the role will focus on helping to define and build online strategy for Foodism and Escapism and to grow their digital channels, with potential input into content creation for its sister title Square Mile, too.

Needless to say, a passion for food and drink culture as well as travel is very much non-negotiable.

Role responsibilities:

  • Planning, writing and publishing online articles within our core content channels
  • Using keyword research and analytics to maximise the reach of Foodism and Escapism’s online content
  • Using the same tools to ensure content from Foodism and Escapism’s print magazines finds a home and an audience online
  • Supporting the commercial team and advertisers by writing native and promotional content for client campaigns and branded content
  • Supporting editor, staff writer and contributing editor on content strategy, direction and planning
  • Helping to manage and grow Foodism and Escapism’s social media accounts, with a focus on Instagram
  • Contributing short- and long-form copy and features to Foodism and Escapism’s print magazines
  • Building relationships with PR agencies, brands and advertisers, including attending events, press nights, client meetings, restaurants and bars and press trips as a representative of Foodism and Escapism

  • Experience in SEO, analytics, social media and web reporting is essential
  • Strong creative abilities – you’ll have an instinct for what makes a great story and the best way of presenting it across our platforms
  • The ability to write clean, compelling copy with a distinctive voice
  • The ability to work both on your own and in collaboration with others, and the initiative to manage your own time and workload when needed
  • A good grounding in food and drink
  • A keen interest in travel
  • An interest in fashion and celebrity culture would be useful, but is not essential
  • A degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
  • Experience working in an editorial environment via work experience, internships or at a junior level at an existing publication

£23k annually + annual bonus up to £3k

  • Working from 9am-5:30pm, five days a week
  • Flexible working from both our Clapham Common office and home
  • Attending occasional meetings and events during the working day and some evenings

How to apply:

Send your CV along with a covering letter that also outlines your passion for food and drink and travel, putting “Editorial assistant application” in the subject line.  Please advise on your current notice period, if you have one.

Please also include any previous work (up to three items) that supports your application.
