Motion Designer – for Daily Mail’s Snapchat Discover videos

MailOnline is the world's largest English-language newspaper website with over 225 million monthly unique visitors globally.

The Snapchat Discover creative team are looking for a talented designer to animate the content that we publish exclusively in the Snapchat app every day.

This is an opportunity to create fun videos to illustrate our content using 2D and 3D graphics, for both hard-hitting news stories and showbiz exclusives.

The ideal candidate will come up with ideas every day on how to illustrate and animate our content in short video ‘topsnaps’. These need to be attention-grabbing, tasty, and ultimately make our content irresistible to Snapchat readers.

We are looking for someone who is a reader of MailOnline/DailyMail content, specifically U.S. celebrity culture, viral videos, politics, science, and crime.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment with a daily publishing deadline.

You will be an advanced user of both Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and Premier Pro. And you must be able to quickly learn our in-house design style and workflow.

For designers who have never worked in a news environment, this is a rare opportunity to learn from expert storytellers and progress in your career with help and guidance along the way.

You will work towards creating a number of 10-second animated snaps each day, using the assets provided which include video, audio, graphics, as well as static pictures and headline text.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conceive, design, and animate ‘topsnaps’ each day as part of a team. Topsnaps are maximum 10 seconds long and are published in the Discover section of the Snapchat app.
  • Meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced design environment.
  • Work closely with our sub-editing team, which provides the headlines for each topsnap.
  • Be capable and confident in presenting animation and design ideas.
  • Quickly develop the ability to recognise the tone required for each design job – deciding whether it requires a humorous treatment or a more sensitive approach.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience in motion graphics plus video and photo editing.
  • Excellent understanding of layout, typography, animation, and the skills to combine them.
  • High level of proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically After Effects, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro.
  • Keen interest in celebrity culture (specifically U.S. based) while also being a follower of current news affairs.
  • Organisational skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Good knowledge and interest of social media platforms.
  • Shift pattern flexibility including weekend work… we produce videos 365 days of the year.

This is a hybrid role with an initial requirement to be based in our Kensington office in West London, moving to a mix of office days and work-from-home days.

This is a 365-day operation, so you must be flexible with working patterns Including work on Saturdays and Sundays.

For both freelance and full-time positions, the daily rate of pay is based on experience. Full-time staff benefits include a competitive salary and company pension scheme.

Please apply by sending an up-to-date CV, a note about yourself and why you’d be perfect for the team. Any applications received without a CV will not be considered.
