Reporter,  Building, Building Design, Housing Today (full-time, hybrid role)

Description

We are looking for an experienced or aspiring reporter who loves to break exclusive stories, interview company bosses and cover business controversies. 

As part of our award-winning team you’ll be working across our three B2B titles: Building, Building Design and Housing Today, bringing impactful news, insight and analysis to professionals in the built environment. 

You’ll build up trusted industry contacts to produce high-quality, award-winning journalism for specialist audiences. You’ll develop a deep understanding of business markets and contacts. Every day you’ll be generating ideas, unearthing new information and making new contacts. 

All our reporters are central to driving our editorial ambitions, deepening our coverage of issues, attending industry events, growing our network of contacts and feeding into our strategic ideas at team meetings. 

Everyone on the team receives support and coaching to develop their skills and expertise in their industry ‘patch’.  

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to daily news output to ensure the websites has up-to-date content
  • Break off-diary stories
  • Build up relationships with key industry contacts 
  • Monitor industry events and developments and write relevant stories 
  • Generate ideas for in-depth analysis pieces, interviews and other features, including listicles and explainers
  • Attend internal content meetings (including one day a week in our central London co-working space)
  • Attend conferences/ industry events

Skills/experience desirable 

  • Journalism qualification or proven experience as a reporter
  • Clear and accurate writing
  • High level of numeracy
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure 
  • Ability to take ownership of a story and differentiate it from the competition
  • Track record finding fresh angles on running stories
  • Social media experience

Salary range: £19k-£24k DOE
