The Pharmaceutical Journal is currently seeking an ambitious and tenacious journalist to lead on our investigations output. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to work with an award-winning team of journalists, while elevating your profile in health journalism. As our investigations editor, you will be instrumental in producing exclusive news stories and conducting in-depth, revelatory investigative features. You will also have a chance to use and develop your editing skills with both news and long-form pieces, and your work will play a crucial role in shedding light on health policy issues.
We are looking for a seasoned journalist with at least three years of experience in breaking exclusive news stories, ideally within the health/scientific sector. Your portfolio should showcase your investigative journalism skills and your knack for writing long-form analysis pieces.
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in investigative journalism and writing long-form analysis pieces.
- A strong news sense and a keen interest in health policy.
- Exceptional organisational skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated writing ability.
Desirable
- A recognised journalism qualification.
- Evidence of successfully managing people.
The Team
- The Pharmaceutical Journal’s award-winning news and views team strives to set the pharmacy news agenda by producing exclusive news and features for RPS members and the profession more broadly. We also produce thought-provoking opinion pieces and Q&As with key figures in pharmacy, while keeping members up to date on the latest RPS announcements.
- We are a small, highly collaborative and friendly news and views team, with an overarching aim of ensuring The Pharmaceutical Journal remains a trusted source of information for our readers.
The Directorate
- The Pharmaceutical Journal is an integral department of Pharmaceutical Press, the publishing division of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. The department comprises four business functions: product, editorial, business development, and production, with a brilliant team of editors, journalists and product people constantly looking to do new things and improve our products and how we work.
- We employ a mix of business models across our portfolio of products, from membership, subscriptions, advertising and sponsorship, ensuring that the portfolio remains fully aligned to the larger organisational mission and vision of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
How we are currently working
RPS supports and works in a hybrid way, which means you will be able to work from home, however, there will be an expectation for collaborative face-to-face working – on average and typically this may be something between 4-8 working days per month at our London Office.
Closing Date: 1 March 2023
