  • Take responsibility for the placing of stories and pictures and make proactive decisions.
  • Create front pages that set the news agenda.
  • Oversee the teams producing the business, features and sports sections and give guidance where necessary.
  • Work with the news, design, picture and digital news desks to ensure the edition is produced efficiently, that the best content is used and is presented consistently with Telegraph.co.uk

Key skills

  • This is a very senior role and experience of leading news production at a national newspaper is essential. The successful candidate will need to be able to work independently, and have the confidence to take tough decisions.
  • Ability to work efficiently, make best use of resources and collaborate with colleagues.
  • A proven record for accuracy and attention to detail; imagination in writing headlines and in the display of pages; an excellent understanding of what makes a good picture, a superior understanding of language and its correct usage.
  • An understanding of how multimedia digital stories and images can be translated into engaging articles in print.
