ABOUT THE ROLE

You will support the Site Director to execute a strategy for ELLE.COM/UK which aligns with the overall business goals and objectives of ELLE and Hearst, overseeing SEO and ecomm and working with wider department heads to increase engagement and maintain scale along with the curation and growth of the weekly ELLE newsletter and its audience, and schedule Apple News Notifications. We’re looking for someone that is highly skilled at building stories and editing at speed within a CMS.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Site Director to execute a strategy for ELLE.COM/UK which aligns with the overall business goals and objectives of ELLE and Hearst.
  • Liaise with the Community Director to pitch and write creative membership content. 
  • Take ownership of SEO and ecomm and work with wider department heads to increase engagement and maintain scale.
  • Oversee the curation and growth of the weekly ELLE newsletter and its audience, and schedule Apple News Notifications.
  • Pitch regular long-read features and digital op-eds each week that communicate the ELLE tone and our awareness of the cultural zeitgeist. 
  • Support the Site Director in ensuring digital workflow is maintained and liaise with wider team department heads to produce regular digital content.
  • Organise and work with wider team members to ensure all print features are uploaded and built on the website in a timely manner.
  • Conceptualise and execute video interviews and oversee the writing and editing of articles.  
  • Provide support and mentorship to junior members of staff, provide training and organise regular meetings to improve their writing and editing skills, as well as develop a better understanding of best digital practice. 
  • Help to provide traffic reports, using insight to optimise SEO and ecomm strategy.
  • Step in for the Site Director in moments of absence and maintain strong relationships with wider company members.
  • Act as an ambassador of Hearst UK, ELLE UK and its values at internal and external events.

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven experience in an editorial role, writing copy and commission and editing.
  • Highly skilled at building stories and editing at speed within a CMS. 
  • An understanding of the importance of SEO in journalism, and how to use it effectively in everything from body copy to headlines. 
  • Experience of working closely with business teams to identify and collaborate on revenue-generating projects, whether commercial or consumer
  • A comprehensive contacts book, from authors, journalists, Hollywood PRs to fashion designers
  • A flair for storytelling and identifying trends and topics to cover - and the best way in which to write and engage with our audience.
