Deputy Food Editor
Job Description:
Deputy Food Editor, Waitrose Food
Britain's leading and multi-award-winning food and lifestyle magazine Waitrose Food is looking for a Deputy Food Editor reporting into the Food Editor.
You will support the Food Editor in looking after the recipe and food pages of the magazine, coming up with fresh, bold and exciting ideas for new content.
You should demonstrate an understanding of the Waitrose audience, a wide-ranging knowledge of competitor food magazines. A general flair for recipe creation, and a passion for the subject of food and drink is necessary .
Responsibilities include:
- Help plan the recipe content of each issue of Waitrose Food, including all editorial pages, advertorials and ibinds
- Help plan the recipe content for non-magazine projects, such as recipe cards, best customer and direct mail
- Commission writers and ensure they work to their deadlines
- Edit all recipe copy so it is in-house-style before testing
- Ensure all recipe content is triple-tested (at least 90% of testing to take place in the Waitrose Food kitchen) and works
- Write technical cookery pages for the magazine
- Manage the Waitrose Food kitchen. Overseeing a team of freelance testers, and accommodating outside events such as dinners and filming
- Attendance at regular planning meetings and marketing briefings at John Brown or at Bracknell (or elsewhere). Frequent visits to Bracknell to maintain relations with individual buyers
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Formal cookery training or years of experience working in professional kitchens
- Experience working on the editorial side of magazines or editorial content platforms
- Professional experience of recipe writing and testing essential
- Experience of maintaining successful relationships with clients
- Experience of working with designers and art directors
