As a Senior Homepage Editor you will work to build deeper loyalty with The i Paper’s existing audience, help subscribers discover the depth and breadth of our journalism, and ensure a consistent, premium presentation of our journalism on our website and through push notifications.

A vital member of our newsroom, this individual will be personally responsible for much of the minute-by-minute management of our channels.

As such it requires someone with great interpersonal skills, a keen news sense but also the ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond rapidly to developing news events.

This role will include some shift and weekend work.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Work with the Digital Publishing editor to plan the daily rollout of i journalism across all our owned channels and drive key audience engagement behaviors with subscribers
  • Attend daily planning and news conferences to feedback key insights, help shape coverage and explain splash lineups
  • Work with the broader Audience Team to use data and research to develop and refine the long-term homepage and notification strategy
  • Curate all aspects of The i Paper’s product experience
  • Write and send browser, email and app notifications
  • Train and work with Audience team colleagues and freelancers to cover curation duties as needed
  • Commitment to i's editorial standards of impartial and incisive coverage, and appreciation for i’s audience and tone

Required skills and experience

  • 3+ years in a digital newsroom, ideally in a fast-paced live news environment
  • Experience managing homepage(s) for a digital news brand, or equivalent
  • Experience curating news stories for a premium audience
  • Experience writing push notifications
  • Exceptional news judgement
  • Proficient with Wordpress or equivalent CMS
  • Ability to write effective headlines and choose engaging images
  • Proficiency with Photoshop or equivalent image editing tools
  • Comfortable using analytics software such as GA4 or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of media law and the Editors’ Code of Practice
