Newsweek is seeking a full-time Royal Reporter to join our London team.
The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge on all aspects of the British royal family and will be comfortable writing stories on them with speed, accuracy and confidence.
Working with our royal correspondent, the Royal Reporter will be tasked with helping to grow Newsweek’s royals’ coverage through breaking news, expert analysis, and original interviews.
The Royal Reporter will be expected to cultivate a strong relationship with the royal press office and plan coverage around major diary events.
The successful candidate will have experience in a reporting role at a reputable organization. They will have a strong understanding of digital journalism and the needs of a fast-paced newsroom. They will have a skillful approach to writing engaging stories. They will be responsible for ensuring high-quality coverage that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism.
Working hours: This is a full-time role, working 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. Currently the Royal Reporter shift is 7am – 4pm with a 1-hour break. Work outside of regular working patterns, for example to cover events, is occasionally expected.
Place of Work: Our office is based in London, Canary Wharf, but you will have the ability to work from home anywhere in the UK.
Responsibilities
Research, source, pitch, and write several stories each day covering the British royal family and related topics.
- React to breaking news.
- Obtain original interviews and exclusives.
- Research and write original features.
- Maintain royal calendar and plan stories around diary events.
- Ensure Newsweek delivers high-quality reporting that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.
Requirements
- Experience in a relevant reporting role for a reputable organization.
- Expert knowledge on all aspects of the British royal family and will be comfortable writing stories on them with speed, accuracy and confidence
- Organization and planning skills.
- Writing and copy-editing skills.
- SEO and online journalism skills.
- Familiarity with using social media, Google Trends and other news discovery tools to find stories.
- Capable of working to tight deadlines.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
