Associate Picture Editor
Location: Metro Headquarters – London
Position: 1 year maternity cover – start January 2025
Minimum 3 days per week in our offices at High Street Kensington (could also consider 4/5 days). Will include occasional night and weekend shifts as per demands of the rota.
The Metro is looking for a talented Associate Picture Editor to join our Online Picture Desk. The successful candidate will have experience of leading during night and weekend shifts and responsibilities will include going through the picture wires and identifying stories relevant for Metro across all sections of the site from News to Features, Entertainment and Sport. You will also be able to identify the most pertinent images for each story and create appropriate composites to sit on the home page and our Social feeds.
Experience of working on an online picture desk is a must, as are excellent Photoshop skills. Any experience with building graphics is a plus.
Job description:
- Fulfil picture requests from the News Desk and other sections of the site
- Liaise with the Picture Editor on the content of the daily picture queues and follow up on stories developing throughout the day and source any additional photographic material needed.
- Photoshop skills needed to create composite previews using two or more images for use on the home page and our social media.
- Create graphics to illustrate stories if appropriate.
- Able to communicate with reporters to ensure we are using the best images to illustrate and sell the story.
- Communicate with the rest of the team to make sure the best person for each request is assigned to the right stories.
Must be flexible regarding shifts (including weekends and nights).
