We are seeking a business reporter for The Times Enterprise Network (TEN).

The successful candidate will work as part of a small team of reporters, delivering agenda setting news stories and features focused on entrepreneurs, scale ups, emerging technologies and government business policy, as well as contributing to our highly-respected Sunday Times 100 fast-growth company programmes.

You must have the ability to work autonomously, deliver clear concise copy to strict deadlines, be brimming with brilliant ideas and have strong data skills. You should have experience reporting on business news at a national newspaper, major digital news outlet or trade publication.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines
  • Cover the news stories of most interest to our audience of ambitious business leaders
  • Pitch exclusive story ideas to the TEN editor and run with them as they develop
  • Work as part of the TEN team on big projects such as the Sunday Times 100 rankings of Britain’s fastest-growing private companies
  • Build and maintain excellent contacts at key businesses and within government
  • Use social networking and other digital platforms for content generation and to promote TEN content
  • Work collaboratively with other sections across the paper, particularly digital and graphics, to ensure the best presentation of stories on our digital platforms

Skills and experience

  • Experience writing for a national newspaper, news website or trade publication
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for business news
  • Keen attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking
  • Good understanding of audience data and SEO techniques to maximise search results
  • Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences for The Times and Sunday Times
  • Able to work autonomously and to strict deadlines
  • Excellent presentation skills and able to communicate succinctly and effectively
  • Unflappable and reliable under pressure
  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
