Your mission
HELLO! magazine and HELLO!’s digital platforms are looking for a senior subeditor to work as part of the content production team, with a special remit to help identify efficiencies and change ways of working. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong editing skills and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines. This is a London-based role with hybrid working including at least three days a week in our central London office.

Key Responsibilities
- Review work practices, suggesting alternative ways of working, to speed up the current process.
- Edit and fact-check copy for accuracy, clarity, grammar and style adherence, ensuring content meets the highest editorial standards for print and digital publication.
- Write engaging headlines, captions and other display copy that captivates readers and drives engagement times across all platforms.
- Manage tight deadlines and prioritise tasks effectively to ensure timely delivery of content for print editions and online publication.
- Stay informed about celebrity, royal and lifestyle events, industry trends and audience preferences to inform editorial decisions and content development strategies.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of editorial style guides and standards to uphold consistency and quality across all published content across the brand.
- Mentor and help train younger writers.
- Support the magazine editor, website editor and their senior team to publish on deadline on all platforms.
- Deputise for the production editor in their absence.
- Your profile
- Strong subediting skills across digital and print platforms with a proven ability to edit copy quickly, accurately and to the highest standard, using swift and strong research and fact-checking skills utilising credible sources.
- Exceptional editing skills with a meticulous attention to detail and a thorough understanding of grammar, punctuation and style across all platforms.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, and the ability to work fast and stay cool under pressure of digital breaking news deadlines.
- Strong command of headline writing and other page/digital furniture with the ability to craft compelling and SEO-friendly headlines for digital content, and to optimise meta data for the digital platforms.
- Proficiency in print production software, digital editing tools and content management systems and experience using workflow tools such as Trello.
- A keen interest in analytics and a desire to constantly tweak strategy to react to data.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to solve problems and negotiate.
- Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Flexible and committed, and full of ideas for how to improve products and processes.
- A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues, plus up-to-date knowledge of media law.
Experience
- Experience reviewing processes and changing ways of working to be as efficient as possible
- Experience using workflow tools like Trello.
- Experience as a subeditor on a national newspaper or news website with a demonstrable interest in entertainment news and lifestyle content
Qualifications
- Degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field.

Our Digital and Commercial teams are based in our gorgeous WeWork office at Blackfriars and our print magazine team are close neighbours at HELLO! HQ.
HELLO! supports hybrid working our Commercial and Print Magazine teams are office based on Tuesday and Wednesday and our Digital team on Wednesday and Thursday.
