With over 600 journalists worldwide, we continue to grow and require an enthusiastic and talented Assistant Foreign Editor to join the MailOnline news desk.
Profile
The role encompasses news editing to support the Foreign/Deputy Foreign/US Editors and stepping into one of those roles when required. The job involves the management of editorial production processes, assisting with news gathering, copy editing and headline writing.
In particular, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing the quality and output of news in alignment with the news operation of MailOnline and in accordance with the editorial objectives set by the UK Editor and the Foreign Editor.
A strong track record of news gathering, editing and managing a team is essential, together with an understanding of digital 24-hour news and the processes and pressures that come with operating in this environment.
Outstanding candidates should also be able to balance editorial objectives in a fast paced news environment. Prior experience in managing reporters, news editing and publishing is essential.
Core Responsibilities
- Direct, develop and maintain the quality and output of rolling, digital news
- Writing strong and engaging headlines and copy
- A keen eye for using images and videos
- Establish a strong production process, manage breaking news and identify content that engages our readership
- Adept at using analytics and social media to help curate the site and develop content
