Job Details

The Asia Correspondent is an experienced journalist ideally based in Taipei covering the region with a strong focus on China and Taiwan.

They will work across a variety of formats, including online, print, video, podcasts and live-blogs. The pace is fast so accuracy and speed under pressure is essential. 

This is a key specialism within the foreign news team, covering some of the most high-profile events and themes on the global news agenda.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive coverage of Asia for The Telegraph.
  • Writing breaking news stories and also providing relevant longer form pieces, including dispatches, analyses and features.
  • Developing contacts and exclusives that break new ground. 
  • Reacting to the demands of a 24/7 online news environment.
  • Applying balance and sensitivity to reporting and writing.
  • Readiness to travel at short notice and report from hostile environments when needed.
  • Commitment to digital journalism and online storytelling.
  • Commitment to  growing audiences in the region and the US.

Key skills

ESSENTIAL

  • Significant journalistic experience of writing for a newspaper or website.
  • Proven ability in filing clean copy to strict deadlines.
  • Interest in and knowledge of multimedia storytelling.

DESIRABLE

  • Proficiency in relevant languages.
  • Deep knowledge of Asian history, culture and politics.
  • Experience reporting on defence issues.
  • Experience reporting from conflict and/or disaster zones.
