Job Details
Role purpose and overview
The Telegraph needs a Social Media Editor, Podcasts, with excellent creative social video producing and editing skills to maximise the potential of our podcasts using social media.
You will have the chance to work across a variety of content in a fast-paced newsroom, alongside some of the country’s best journalists in their field. This is an exciting challenge to make a real impact in growing audiences and increasing engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare promotional assets for episodes, such as teasers, thumbnails, graphics and posts. Test different content formats
- Edit and optimise podcast video clips to create short form and vertical content tailored to Instagram, TikTok, X & Youtube Shorts, ensuring a consistent tone and branding
- Engage social audiences in real time, cover breaking news and respond to audience feedback. This includes live-tweeting and producing reactive, on-brand social content
- Shoot and edit social-first video projects including attending external shoots
- Inform best practices for scripting, presenting, shooting and editing social footage. Confidently deliver this, plus rapid feedback to Telegraph writers
- Provide social news trends and insight on social conversations to podcast teams to inform commissioning and suggest angles that will maximise social reach
- Use data and analytics to analyse performance, inform onward social strategy and deliver on podcast social media growth targets
- Grow loyal social followings and build engage communities of value to the Telegraph
Key skills
- Experienced in video production and editing for social media using Adobe Premiere, preferably within a national quality publisher
- Experience optimising videos to reach large audiences. An understanding of platform algorithms, capturing attention and what generates engagement
- Setting strategy, presenting ideas and working collaboratively with other teams to achieve goals
- Worked in a social media role with a good understanding of content production in a busy editorial environment
- Strong creative storytelling and scripting skills
- Proven track record of driving follower growth across diverse social platforms and nurturing engaged communities
- Deep understanding of the latest trends in the wider social media landscape, and ability to pivot strategy to accommodate them.
- The ability to work comfortably both independently and as part of a team
- Good at fostering and building relationships in person and online, individually and at scale
- A firm grasp of The Telegraph’s brands and journalistic values, both in digital and in print
- Understanding of analytics tools, and the ability to make decisions about social media activities based on analytics when appropriate
