Job Details
Are you ready to play a pivotal role in the heart of British politics and make waves with your storytelling prowess? We are looking for an experienced journalist and political expert to join the Mirror as our new Deputy Political Editor.
You will be a key player in the Mirror’s talented and award-winning politics team based in the Houses of Parliament. You will stalk the halls of power in Westminster, breaking compelling political stories that shape our nation and beyond.
We are looking for someone with a track record of breaking major stories, an unrivalled contacts book and a thorough understanding of national and international politics. If you're passionate about holding power to account and have an insatiable curiosity for the world of politics, we want to hear from you.
This role is based in our offices in Westminster, we are therefore open to candidates based in and around London.
What will the role involve?
We are looking for someone to take the Mirror’s political coverage to new heights. You will deliver exclusive stories that captivate both print and online audiences, always on the lookout for what could make a striking front-page splash or an eye-catching online banner.
You will help steer the team on a day-to-day basis, managing the diary and offering guidance to more junior members of the Politics team.
You will think creatively about our video and social media content across various platforms from TikTok to contributing to our Reach Studio Division Bell political podcast. You'll be right where the action is, covering Parliament, speeches, and thrilling foreign trips. You will craft compelling stories for our 7-day operation, ensuring our weekend content is as engaging as ever.
Who are we looking for?
You are a senior qualified journalist and editor with extensive experience breaking political stories for national titles. You are right at home in Westminster and have demonstrable significant experience reporting from the Houses of Parliament. You have a comprehensive understanding of national and international politics, with a passion for telling stories that resonate with our audiences both in print and online.
You can deliver agenda-setting stories and write engaging in-depth long reads, while providing insightful analysis and commentary to other members of the team. You can inspire and motivate the political team to source exclusives and work to tight deadlines. You have a bursting contacts book full of politicians and PRs alike, to ensure the Mirror stays one step ahead of our rivals.
