Production Editor (Freelance)

About us

Cultureshock is a creative media agency with more than 20 years of experience working with cultural institutions and their partners, including global brands, hotels and luxury lifestyle clients.
We have more than 30 creative and publishing specialists in our London office, as well as representatives in LA and New York, many of whom have worked with some of the leading brands in the world.

About the role

Cultureshock is seeking two experienced production editors for an art and culture print magazine, published six times a year, and covering two-week periods each issue. This is a fast-paced project and you will ideally be a native American English speaker. You will manage a team of two sub editors and work closely with a designer, handing over to or taking over from a new team each day to cover GMT and EST working hours.

This is a remote working position but the ability to spend one or two days a week in a London office is a benefit.

Shifts required are either covering GMT 09:00–17:00 for each issue’s two week production period, or 16:00–00:00 for the same.

The first production period begins 31 March 2025, and ideally you will be available for onboarding days before this.

The role involves:

  • Coordinating a full print magazine production through to print, liaising with US and London-based editorial and design teams and a team of subeditors.
  • Managing workflows and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, using tracking and content management systems as appropriate.
  • Quality checking content.
  • Ensuring that materials are produced on time and maintain consistency and house style.
  • Related admin duties (client liaison and meetings, file and flatplan management etc.)

Experience and skills required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven experience working with the Associated Press Stylebook.
  • Impeccable spelling and grammar and a keen eye for detail.
  • The ability to work quickly and proactively, be highly organised and adept at prioritising to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent management skills.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in InDesign including fitting copy, resizing page elements and text boxes, fixing paragraph styles, re-pagination and re-linking imagery.
  • Strong administrative and technical skills.
  • The ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative and flexible way.
  • Knowledge of the art world is highly desirable.
