Dow Jones Investment Banker, News Editor
News Editor – London – Dow Jones Investment Banker - London
Dow Jones Investment Banker, part of Dow Jones Newswires, is looking for an experienced editor to help frame and then edit sophisticated financial and strategic commentary for an audience of investment bankers. The DJIB product delivers news and analysis to an audience of investment bankers along with our own exclusive, deal-oriented commentary. Our columnists are ex-bankers and analysts and seasoned financial journalists, so the editor will need a deep grasp of the dealmaker’s tools of analysis – particularly approaches to valuing companies. He or she should also have a solid understanding of the strategies, mechanics and practicalities of M&A, IPOs and so on. DJIB columnists routinely include financial spreadsheets with their pieces, so the editor must have a command of Excel, as well as an ability to work with a graphic artist to come up with imaginative visual expressions of the writers’ analyses. The columnists generate most of their own ideas, but our editors also suggest topics and act as sounding boards, hearing out writers’ ideas and challenging their arguments. The editors are not sheepish about aggressively editing pieces that aren’t sharp and punchy enough at first.
This editor will work primarily with writers in London and Hong Kong, but also with those in New York at times. Familiarity with the current investment banking environment in Asia would be a plus. He or she might be an experienced financial journalist or someone from the financial world with a passion for incisive analysis and pointed prose who would relish the independence we enjoy as journalists. We are a small, collegial group, so this person must thrive on collaboration and be a team player.
