The Team: Morningstar UK’s website welcomes 250,000 private investors and financial professionals each month. These users value Morningstar.co.uk for its extensive data, independent investment research (stocks, funds, investment trusts and ETFs) and portfolio management tools. The website empowers individuals to take control of their financial lives by providing independent, engaging, accessible and actionable investment tools and content. Morningstar.co.uk editorial combines investor education with investment news and trends, analytical commentary and actionable investing ideas.
The Role: The role of the web editor/journalist is to produce original editorial via articles and videos that educate and engage the investor, drive traffic and showcase Morningstar’s capabilities. The web editor/journalist will be heavily involved in generating content ideas, creating engaging editorial content, commissioning content from elsewhere in the business, and programming the content on the site to ensure maximum viewership.
The web editor/journalist is keen to empower investors by providing editorial on all aspects of the investment process, from goal-setting to financial planning; investment research to portfolio management; preparing for, transitioning to, and investing in retirement; and understanding investment trends and history.
The successful applicant will play a key role in influencing the future direction of the site. The web editor/journalist plays an essential role in bringing together Morningstar’s research, data and video capabilities, while supporting product management. The successful applicant will be equally comfortable interviewing subjects on camera, writing education material for new investors, and disseminating investment data for sophisticated investors.
The role offers considerable room for creativity and the opportunity to build strong research skills. It would be an ideal role for someone with a broad knowledge of financial topics, experience of producing web editorial to deadline, and a hands-on approach to day-to-day content management and social media.
This position is based in our London office.
+ Attract investors to Morningstar.co.uk through the creation and optimisation of written and on-camera editorial content.
+ Cater for--and continue to expand--Morningstar’s online community by identifying key issues facing today’s investors.
+ Empower Morningstar.co.uk’s audience through the provision of education, commentary and actionable ideas informed by the best of Morningstar data and research.
+ Create and manage editorial content on a daily basis, and commission and produce content from other areas of the business.
+ Attend industry events and external meetings to build contacts, represent Morningstar.co.uk and inform editorial content.
+ Drive traffic to the website and showcase Morningstar capabilities through editorial content.
+ Work closely with product management to identify opportunities for informing, equipping and engaging our users, as well as improving the site as a whole.
+ Take an active role in all aspects of website production, including internal promotion, search engine optimisation, monitoring user patterns, and researching external partnership opportunities.
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, media, finance, economics, investment, or similar field.
+ Proven journalism experience essential.
+ Proven on-camera experience desirable.
+ Demonstrable investing and financial markets knowledge
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
+ Excellent organisational skills, an inquisitive approach to reporting and investigating news and trends, and an analytical approach to problem-solving.
+ An interest in social media is desirable.
