Deputy Livestock Editor or Livestock Reporter

Are you passionate about livestock and able to spot a good story? Would you enjoy writing about the latest development in animal husbandry or reporting the results from the major shows? Do you have an eye for delivering content in a compelling and informative way?

Then we could have the job for you at Farmers Weekly.

Following an internal promotion we are looking for a flexible and enthusiastic individual to join our livestock team based in Sutton, Surrey either as deputy livestock editor or as a livestock reporter (dependent on experience).

This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who would relish the chance to report on the latest in the world of breeding, feeding and grassland management – across all species.

Formal journalism experience is not essential, but applicants should be able to demonstrate a track record in writing and an enthusiasm for developing interesting storylines, along with an understanding of livestock farming.

This is a role that requires flexibility, good team integration and an ability to produce quality content to a deadline. The deputy editor would also deputise for the editor on the livestock desk.

Key responsibilities:

Researching and writing livestock stories for Farmers Weekly and FWi website
Contributing show results and sales reports to the Taking Stock blog
Generating story ideas and commissioning content
Editing copy and proofreading pages
Building relationships with industry contacts
Producing videos and using social media to promote articles

Key requirements:
Knowledge of the livestock sector (or a willingness to learn)
Potential to write accurate and informative copy
The ability to interact with farmers and industry
Good time management and organisation
Flexible working within a wider team
Interest in online journalism – including video and social media
