The leading title for the audio visual industry - AV magazine – is looking to recruit an Assistant Editor. This is an exciting opportunity for an established b2b writer with online, social media and print experience looking to move up into a more challenging role at a crucial time in the publication’s development.

AV is part of Metropolis Business Media, the UK’s fastest-growing business publisher. Based at the magazine’s offices in Croydon, this is a key position within an award-winning publication which celebrated 40 years of excellence in 2012.

The publication covers all aspects of professional audio visual which includes: event and video production, rental and staging, digital signage, presentations, displays, audio, systems design and installation, and video conferencing. Its circulation includes end users - the buyers of corporate AV - as well as producers, resellers, systems integrators, distributors and manufacturers.

The role

The Assistant Editor will provide support to the Editor, developing and writing a range of content – from generating news and feature articles for the magazine to managing AV’s online environment.

The Assistant Editor will also take responsibility for:

  • The day-to-day running of AV’s website, weekly email newsletter and iPad application, and social media accounts (Twitter and Linkedin) ensuring our digital output is produced to a consistently high standard
  • Be an ambassador for the AV brand both internally and externally
  • Be able to deputise for the Editor and take over the running of the magazine on occasions
  • Have strong organisational skills, a determined and amiable personality
  • Be comfortable talking in groups, seminars and presentations
  • Have a good eye for a story

 Our expectations

This role would suit an experienced communications professional with a background in generating engaging content. Knowledge of the AV industry is preferable but not essential; common sense and the ability to learn quickly are more important. But you will need proven editorial skills and the energy and enthusiasm to be part of a busy, deadline-driven team. Knowledge of the WordPress publishing platform is desirable.

Demonstrate a successful b2b editorial history
Have had previous responsibility for news/feature writing and editing
Have strong written and creative skills with the ability to write accurate news stories  and compile features in an entertaining and original style

Have the ability to work quickly and accurately with the minimum of fuss while keeping in mind the AV reader at all times

Show experience of managing the magazine production process
