Columbus Travel Media, Commissioning Editor (maternity cover contract)

Job description:

This is a great opportunity to join a progressive media company that is experiencing growth and undergoing exciting changes. Columbus Travel Media is looking for an organised and meticulous commissioning editor and talented writer to join its busy team on its flagship website www.worldtravelguide.net.

You will ideally have experience of working for an online publication and will have an understanding of editing/writing for the web and SEO. A journalism qualification is ideal and a passion for travel is a bonus. An interest in rich media would be advantageous.

Key tasks include:

* Commissioning, editing, proofing and updating online Ski Guides and Airport Guides

* Responsibility for your own budgets

* Writing and editing homepage features, reviews, newsletters and other online content

* Uploading data into content management system, including sourcing and resizing images

* Conducting fact checking and research

* Assisting the Editor and other team members with other projects as required

* Representing the company at external events and on press trips

Core skills required:

* Excellent command of the English language (grammar, spelling, etc)

* Excellent editing skills

* Excellent organiser and self-motivated

* Good attention to detail

* Good interpersonal skills

* Good research skills

* Computer literate and experience of CMS would be beneficial

* Social media skills (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Google+) would be beneficial

Desirable skills:

* Interest in travel

* Fluency in another language

The job is based in Bromley. We are a five-minute walk from Bromley South railway station, which is about 15-20 minutes from London Victoria by train.
