ActionAid, Media Manager

London, Nairobi, Johannesburg or AA Country Office

Job Type
Full Time

We are seeking an exceptional professional to create and deliver a new communications strategy that puts story-telling and public engagement at the heart of what we do.

ActionAid has deep roots in communities fighting some of the starkest injustices in the world, and is known for supporting people to use their own power to organize for change. But as a highly decentralized Federation with over 40 member countries, we often struggle to make their stories ring as loud and true as they should.

Bringing fresh and imaginative approaches to both social and traditional media, you will enable us to better amplify and connect these local struggles, and help us develop a powerful identity that speaks to citizens everywhere who want to be part of a global movement for change.

The Media Manager will need a keen news sense and strong stakeholder management skills so that s/he can spot strategic opportunities for coverage and work collaboratively with countries and other Secretariat staff to make the most of these opportunities, whether through planned and proactive content development or being quick off the mark with reactive media.

Prior experience working with advocacy and campaigns teams would be an advantage, as would a critical, inquiring mind and the ability to produce vivid, exciting copy out of dense development jargon.

Needs to be an experienced, entrepreneurial and collaborative communications expert, with proven ability in developing strategy with senior stakeholders in a complex context.

Experienced in managing a team and all areas of communications, including crisis communications, s/he will also bring experience in working with campaigns, advocacy and fundraising teams to deliver impactful communications to support their goals.

A track record of driving communications success in a distributed global organization would be a strong advantage.

Please send your CV and motivation cover letter to us by completing the application form below.

The closing date for applications is 20 May 2018.

The motivation letter should explain how you meet the criteria for this role set out in the Job Description.

Should you not have received feedback on your application within two weeks of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful. We reserve the right to withdraw any of our vacancies at any time.

ActionAid is committed to providing equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their background. We value diversity and welcome applications from all sections of the community in particular women who are currently underrepresented in senior positions. We regret that agency candidates will not be considered.
