We are the leading source of intelligent information for the world’s businesses and professionals, providing customers with competitive advantage.

Intelligent information is a unique synthesis of human intelligence, industry expertise and innovative technology that provides decision-makers with the knowledge to act, enabling them to make better decisions faster.

We deliver this must-have insight to the financial and risk, legal, tax and accounting, intellectual property and science and media markets, powered by the world’s most trusted news organization.

There is an immediate vacancy for a Correspondent (Automotive Industry).

We are looking for a correspondent based in either Frankfurt, Berlin or Munich to join the autos team covering the country’s automotive industry.

Reuters is looking for a reporter with a track record for developing sources, breaking news and delivering smart enterprise stories to join a team covering the country’s global carmakers and suppliers which includes Volkswagen, Daimler, BMW as well as suppliers Continental and Bosch.

Volkswagen’s diesel emissions cheating scandal triggered a global clampdown on combustion engines which has accelerated a shift toward electric and autonomous cars, intensifying a competition between established automakers and newer players such as ride-hailing firms. The transformation of automakers and their global suppliers is one of the biggest stories in the global industry.

We need a reporter who can stay on top of fast-moving spot news who can also deliver enterprise stories, while collaborating with our global autos team. Especially now, we are eager to have expanded coverage of auto trade politics and the impact of new technologies and business models in transportation.

Fluency in German and English is essential. So too is enthusiasm for working as part of a global team out of Germany, where Reuters has German language and international correspondents. Experience covering the auto and tech industries is not vital but a bonus.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in company news reporting desirable
  • Good German, excellent written English
  • An ability to build contacts with relevant executives/bankers/advisors
  • A passion for breaking news with a sharp eye for discovering industry trends
  • An ability to generate stories that attract investors across the globe
  • Excellent news judgement, with focus on big stories and wider context
  • An ability to be fast and accurate in whatever you do; adhering to the TR trust principles and standards
  • Working in a multimedia way, cooperating closely with visuals teams
  • Team player who can cooperate and plan closely with colleagues from the German language service

The position will be offered on local terms & conditions.
