As a key member of The Telegraph’s publishing department the Digital Publishing Editor will help define the digital strategy of the country’s leading quality news brand.

Working collaboratively with The Telegraph’s best in class Editorial and Technology teams you’ll get a unique insight into how product development can support the future of journalism.

You’ll also lead The Telegraph’s third party publishing strategy and support our partnerships with leading platform holders like Google, Facebook and Apple News. You’ll help nurture a culture of innovation and get the opportunity to steer a wide variety of projects from inception to delivery.

Key responsibilities

  • Evolving strategy for platform development in conjunction with the Head of Digital Publishing to support The Telegraph’s core business objectives
  • Evolving strategy for newsroom transformation to maximise efficiency and systems integration and overseeing deployment of new tools and workflows
  • Identifying opportunities for digital innovation in the newsroom and working with Technology and Product teams to implement new initiatives
  • Engagement with new digital products for rollout across the newsroom
  • Managing editorial relationship with third party platforms
  • Helping to shape and implement the Telegraph’s audio and video strategy, both on- and off-platform
  • Helping define analytics requirements and methods for their reporting
  • Supporting the advancement of use of analytics to evaluate, propose and deliver improved user experience
  • Leading on editorial views on MVTs
  • Helping assess third party tools for inclusion in our toolset
  • Managing site structure
  • Responsible for digital production and publishing cover for major events
  • Improving digital publishing by informing and ensuring best practice
  • Planning and delivering on editorial requirements for company initiatives
  • Responsible for collaboration with the Digital team and contributing to cross-departmental projects
  • Training and documentation for newsroom systems

Essential skills required for the role

  • Critical and decisive approach to problem solving
  • Understanding of how data can be used to inform decisions
  • Ability to work well with a variety of stakeholders and build strong working relationships with other teams
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a wider team
  • Excellent time management skills, working on short and long-term projects at the same time
  • A good understanding of digital journalism
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Additional skills useful for the role

  • Experience of working in a newsroom
  • Journalism training
  • An excellent level of general knowledge, with interest in news, sport and finance
  • Some managerial experience would be preferable but not essential
  • Keen interest in digital innovation
  • Experience with a variety of content management systems and publishing platforms
