- Full Time
Based in Barcelona, the news writer will monitor press-release feeds, websites and other sources of news and send headlines and short stories on key developments for publication in real time.
Writers will be proficient at identifying important, forward-looking detail from a fast-moving stream of information, then turning it into informative, punchy headlines and short articles in English.
Accuracy, speed, excellent news judgement and a close eye for detail are essential. Successful candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume news environment where teamwork and strong communication skills will be hugely important.
Excellent written English is essential. Additional languages are always welcome but aren't essential for this particular role, which is focused on U.K. equities coverage.
Ideally, candidates will have some knowledge of what to look for in corporate earnings statements and press releases, and some familiarity with economic data, financial markets and regulation.
Writers also might do some text translation, media monitoring and could sometimes be asked to crunch data for analysis that might lead to stories.
Writers need to have the flexibility to jump quickly between subjects, languages and tasks while keeping a calm, clear head. They need to be adept and flexible with technology.
