JOB PURPOSE:

To sub pages of magazine, second-read pages, proof reading, and signing off pages of the magazine. Assist the Chief Sub-Editor in overseeing the subbing and production process of all pages, from copy stage through to sending pages to press.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Subbing raw copy and layouts for all pages of the magazine, as well as for Town & Country magazine
  • Checking facts, spelling and grammar
  • Sending layouts to lawyer where necessary
  • Flagging issues up to the Chief sub-editor regarding copy or layouts
  • Liaising with Marketing, Digital and Subscriptions departments over relevant pages to ensure they meet requirements
  • Ensuring that pages meet the brands’ high standard in terms of tone and accuracy
  • Composing compelling display copy in keeping with house style
  • Second-reading subbed layouts on proof
  • Assisting with final reads, signing off pages and proofing
  • Upholding the brands’ unique tone and evolving it
  • Deputising for the Chief Sub-Editor in his absence – must be comfortable leading a team and motivating them to meet tight daily deadlines
  • Subbing any additional editorial or commercial content that arises during the production cycle


PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Experience on a consumer title, preferably women’s and fashion-related
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, InDesign and Censhare
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Organised
  • Calm under pressure
  • Capable of juggling several tasks at once
  • Excellent problem solver
  • Good initiative
