Job Details
FE Week is a leading weekly newspaper and website covering the further education and skills sector in England. We’re seeking an ambitious and determined experienced journalist to join a tight-knit team covering news and investigations.
This will be a full-time and permanent role based in our Greenwich (London) offices. Salary will be determined depending on experience within the range of £25,000 - £30,500.
Working with the team to generate ideas for stories and features, you will have the skills to help ensure FE Week is a lively and informative read for our loyal readers.
There will also be plenty of opportunities for conducting interviews at a policy level, including parliamentary events, party conferences, annual conferences and round-tables.
Our investigations have received multiple industry awards and our work is regularly followed up by other outlets.
Education is in the middle of enormous – and enormously exciting – reform programmes. FE Week is relied upon by its top people to provide accurate and impartial news.
Launched in September 2011 FE Week quickly became the sector’s primary source of news. In recent years our audience has continued to grow at an impressive rate, in the previous two years our digital audience has seen a 70% increase and print 35%.
FE Week is published by Lsect ltd, a privately owned company established in 2010. Lsect also publishes the weekly digital newspaper Schools Week and operates several education events, including the Festival of Education and Annual Apprenticeship Conference.
About you
You will be an experienced reporter who can demonstrate a strong track record in finding and breaking news stories, writing in-depth features and building contacts.
You will be an enthusiastic and creative journalist, passionate about proving facts to the public, with a nose for a story, excellent writing skills, and the drive and commitment to contribute to a hard-working team.
You’ll also be able to demonstrate an ability to engage with readers, source and promote stories via social media, and work your way through data stories.
Ideally, you will have an NCTJ or equivalent qualification, though we will consider your experience as a journalist first.
Prior experience covering education would be an advantage but is not essential. At least two years’ work experience as a journalist is required.
